Professional Experience

Dillon McCartney is the former Director of Special Events and Project Manager for NYIOP International Opera Auditions. NYIOP is a New York based, international company dedicated to scouting opera singers and presenting them to the highest-level Casting and Artistic Directors working in the world’s greatest opera houses. During his sixteen years with NYIOP, Mr. McCartney worked directly alongside David Blackburn, Founder and CEO of NYIOP, facilitating almost every aspect of this dynamic and innovative company, presenting veteran as well as emerging talent to more than 150 international opera houses including: The Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, La Scala, Arena di Verona, Bolshoi Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Gran Teatro del Liceu, Chicago Lyric Opera, Salzburg Festival, Santa Fe Opera, San Francisco Opera, Théâtre de Paris, Chinese National Opera Bejing, Oper Zurich, Bayreuth Festival and Opera Australia.

As an accomplished singer and actor in his own right, Mr. McCartney began his professional singing career in his hometown, New York City, at age eight, as a singer for many radio and television jingles. Work in musical theater soon followed along with extensive experience in rock, pop and even as a barbershop quartet tenor. Fortunate to have a dad who was a producer and director of television commercials, he grew up on movie and television sets and was a working professional actor before entering high school. He has appeared as a concert soloist at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Broadway’s Town Hall Theater, The Kennedy Center, The Benedum Center, The Teatro Bellini (Catania), La Basilica di San Marco (Venice), Teatro Saõ Pedro (Saõ Paulo) and Vest Norges Oper (Bergen) and with numerous Musical Theater companies including: Papermill Playhouse, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and The Pioneer Theater. He still tours with The Three Irish Tenors, regularly.

Mr. McCartney’s insight and perspective into the casting process, cultivated over a decade of “sitting behind the table” at thousands of NYIOP auditions, his ongoing relationships with New York’s leading operatic talent managers and industry professionals along with his own thirty years of experience singing opera, musical theater and concert repertoire on many of the world’s greatest stages have made him a successful, effective and sought after voice teacher as well as audition preparation speciaist.

He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University from which he graduated with University and College Honors.

Mr. McCartney is available for private voice lessons, audition preparation consultations as well as group master classes in audition preparation and presentation for opera, concert and musical theater singers.
